Technologies for Transfer
Prospects for Technology and Know-How Commercialization
The Institute has track record of successful commercialization of medical devices in the country through technology transfer to industry. Some of these include the mechanical tilting disc heart valve prosthesis, blood bags, hydrocephalus shunt, bubble oxygenator and cardiotomy reservoir, membrane oxygenator, concentric needle electrode, dental composites, bioceramic bone graft materials etc. to various Indian industries.
The Institute also undertakes joint development of devices with industry or other institutions.
The Institute seeks suitable industry partners for further development and commercialization of the following products/processes, which are at various stages of development:
1. CHITOSAN BASED WOUND DRESSINGS
Bioactive wound dressings on chitosan platform in various forms like film, sheet, sponge, gels, and loaded with analgesics and antibiotics, seeded with growth factors etc. for applications in wounds, chronic ulcers and burns.
Dental composites developed by the Institute include chemical cure, light cure type with different shades, both radiopague and non-radiopaque varieties. Also includes single solution bonding agent. Know-how also available for glass ionomer cements. Some of the above is already commercialized successfully and in the market for which relicensing is considered as well as other new composites such as Dual Cure systems under development in the lab. Derived from bovine decellularised tissue. (This was part of a project sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India and jointly undertaken with Kerala Livestock Development Board (KLDB), Govt. of Kerala). Industries with experience in cardiovascular segment preferred for commercializing this product. Anti viper venom antibodies (IgY) raised in chicken and purified from egg yolk. New Born Calf Serum acts as an excellent growth and attachment supplement for in vitro cell growth and is generally used in almost all mammalian cell culture. Based on pooled human plasma, with two components-fibrinogen concentrate and thrombin in an injector dispenser. Paper pulp based Bedding material not only has a potential to be developed as the first eco friendly bedding material in Indian sub continent but also an ethically and aesthetically excellent replacement for the already existing options like paddy husk and wood shavings. for detecting antibiotic sensitivity in farm animals for treating mastitis, which has already been licensed and now considered for relicensing. The Institute welcomes expressions of interest from Industry for working with the Institute in the commercialization of the above.
