Affiliated Programmes of SCTIMST Offered at Nnational Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai
The following courses are offered at the National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), ICMR School of Public Health, Chennai, which is an institution under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under the affiliated programme of SCTIMST.
1. MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH (MPH in Epidemiology and Health Systems)
2. PG DIPLOMA in HIV AND EPIDEMIOLOGY (PGDHE)
Both the programmes commence from July every year.
Duration and Course Organization :
1. Master of Public Health (Epidemiology and Health Systems)
Duration : 2 years
The programme is structured on "learning by doing" model comprising of four contact sessions across 13 months at NIE interspersed and with three field postings of 11 months duration (Total 24 months duration in total).
Eligibility:
Applicants having the following criteria will be eligible to apply for the course:
1. MBBS degree recognized by the Medical Council of India
2. Three years experience in public health related activities after MBBS
3. Age up to 45 years as on the date of commencement of the course (1st July every year).
Course Fees:
There is no course fee for the candidates sponsored by the state/central government/Armed forces. For others, the course fee will be Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees One lakh only) payable at the beginning of the academic year. The fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.
Method of selection:
A selection committee constituted and approved by the Director, SCTIMST will evaluate the prospective candidates on the basis of educational qualifications, professional experience relevant to public health, entrance examination (written test/interview). Preference will be given to the candidates sponsored by the State/Central/UT Governments and Armed Forces.
The decision of the Director, SCTIMST shall be final in all matters.
PG Diploma in HIV Epidemiology
Duration: 1 year
The primary goal of the PGDE is to develop a self sustaining institutionalized capacity of public health works in applied HIV Epidemiology at field level and competent in addressing HIV public health needs and priorities efficiently and effectively. It is expected that in the long term PGDHE will lead to improved surveillance systems contributing to health system strengthening and increased improved human resource capacity at the national level.
It aims at to maximize the quality of the outputs of the students and help them accomplish the expected tasks, an intensive in-service training is planned.
Eligibility:
1. MBBS degree recognized by the Medical Council of India
2. Current position in Central/State Government, preferably in HIV/AIDS control Programme, sponsored on deputation for 1 year on a full time basis.
3. Minimum two years experience in Public Health/HIV surveillance or programme related activities.
4. Age 40 years or less as on the date of commencement of the course. Relaxable in exceptional cases.
Method of selection:
A selection committee constituted and approved by the Director, SCTIMST will evaluate the prospective candidates based on the review of applications, written test/personal interview. Director, SCTIMST shall be final in all matters.
