| The
Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science
Studies (AMCHSS) is the Health Sciences
wing of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute
for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST).
Established
in 1974, the SCTIMST is an "Institute
of National Importance" and a full
member of the Association of Indian Universities
& the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
Over the last two decades, it has achieved
national acclaim for its contribution in
tertiary medical care, postgraduate training
& research and development of medical
devices & biomaterials.
With
the establishment of AMCHSS, SCTIMST acquired
the unique combination of tertiary care,
biomedical technology research and health
science training and research. The main
objective of the AMCHSS is to train health
professionals in health research and in
formulation and implementation of health
policies. Served by core and visiting faculty,
the AMC offers an international Master of
Public Health (MPH) programme, short courses
and Ph.D. programme catering to all South
Asian countries. The Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare, Government of India
recognized AMCHSS as a 'Centre of Excellence'
for public health training and sponsors
candidates for the MPH under the WHO Fellowship
Programme.
Besides,
AMCHSS is the Secretariat for the Public
Health Schools without Walls Network, a
network of Public Health Schools in Asia
and Africa.
In
short span of 5 years, members of the AMCHSS
have authored 8 books, 31 research papers
in national & international journals,
9 research articles and 7 chapters in books.
The
AMCHSS has already completed or is conducting
work on 15 projects with financial support
from the Centre for Development Studies,
CHANGE (Washington DC), European Commission
(though Government of Kerala), Ford Foundation,
Government of Kerala, Health Policy Development
Network (HELPONET), Mac Arthur Foundation,
Rockefeller Foundation and the World. |
