TECHNOLOGIES TRANSFERRED

During the past two decades, many medical device technologies have been transferred to the Industry, of which list below are in commercial production now.

Blood Bag
Disposable device used for collection, component separation, cryostorage & transfusion of blood. This is the first technology from the BMT Wing, which was commercialised in 1984.

Bubble Oxygenator & Cardiotomy Reservoir

Oxygenator is a rigid shell disposable device used during open-heart surgery as the artificial lung. Cardiotomy reservoir is a disposable device used during open-heart surgery for the collection, filtration and recirculation of blood from the surgical site. This was the first product which went through the scaling up operation at the Technology Proving Facility of the BMT Wing.

Hydrocephalus Shunt
Neurosurgical implant used for the controlled drainage of the cerebrospinal fluid. The technology was licensed for commercial production in 1995.

Mechanical Heart Valve
Permanent implant to replace the diseased natural heart valves and to function for the rest of the patients' life time. The product was licensed for commercial production in 1994.

Ophthalmic Sponge
Disposable swab to remove the blood and other fluids from the surgical site instantly without particulate shredding.

Concentric Needle Electrode
Disposable electrode assembly to pick-up the neuromuscular electrical activity.

Hydroxy Apatite
Material used for augmentation and restoration of bone tissues. This is the first ceramic implant material to reach the clinical stage. Scaling up and technology transfer are in progress.

Material used for anointing to arrest bleeding during incision of bone during surgery.

Dental Composites under the brand name Restofill and bonding agents under the brand names `Stedbond’ and `Stedbond S’ are already in the market.
