Chamata, also known as the Flame of the Forest or Palash tree, is a species of flowering tree native to the Indian subcontinent and is widely distributed in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and other parts of Southeast Asia. It is medium-sized deciduous tree that can reach heights of 15-25 meters. It has a spreading crown and a sturdy trunk with a distinctive grayish-brown bark. Leaves are large and pinnate with several leaflets. The flowers are bright orange or vermillion-red in color and bloom in clusters and looks like a flame in the forest canopy.   

 

Medicinal properties

Various parts of the tree, including the leaves, flowers, and bark, have been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. They are believed to possess anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antimicrobial properties.
