Best Poster Award for 'Development of a Versatile Drug Eluting Bioactive Bone Filler Cement' (Co-authored by Sandhya S, Sureshbabu S, Varma H.K) in the International Union of Material Research Societies - International Conference in Asia 2013 (IUMRS-ICA 2013) held at Indian Instituite of Science, Banglore during 16-20 December 2013.

Have been working on the translational aspects of biomaterials-based products.

Current interests are - (i) Materials for Regenerative Dentistry, and (ii) Bioceramic Drug Delivery Systems.

Supervising the research and development work in the areas of (i) Ceramic Coatings, (ii) Injectable Bone Cements, and (iii) Implantable Vertebral Spacers.

Engaged in the translation of calcium sulfate based injectable bone substitute product, named "BioCaS".

The ongoing R&D activity is coatings development for implantable devices - (i) Biocompatible and protective coatings of Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) on metallic devices for cardiovascular applications, and (ii) Bioactive ceramic coatings on metallic implants for orthopedic and dental applications.

New programs are initiated in (i) Devices and materials to support inter-vertebral fusion and (ii) Materials and methods for endodontic and periodontal tissue regeneration.
